Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Counseling and Career Services, the Career Services Coordinator strategically cultivates long-term relationships and strengthens communication between students, alumni, employers, faculty, foundations, as well as other campus colleagues to create and develop internships and career-based experiential learning opportunities. This position consults with employers, alumni, and campus contacts regarding optimal marketing/outreach strategies to connect College students with internships as well as jobs to expand employment opportunities. This position has high accessibility to students and provides students with guidance as well as information regarding career research, finding professional career pathways, decision-making, and job searching.
Job Duties
- Assists in providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of the College’s overall internship and career-based experiential learning program.
- Develops, updates, and implements career development activities that support programs in exposing students to opportunities in their career field, including focusing on career, continuing education, and certification.
- Develops partnerships with employers, community leaders, business owners, alumni, faculty, foundations, and other campus contacts to create internship and career-based experiential learning opportunities for students.
- Engages students in career planning assessments, and assists students in developing a career plan, provides mock interview support and training to build a resume, complete an application for employment, and search for a job and interview; connects students with appropriate internship, externship, or job shadowing opportunities.
- Assists in providing leadership and support for college-wide and job workshops/fairs.
- Participates in local and national internship professional organizations and networks.
- Assists in maintaining data on internship and employment positions as well as reporting on those data.
- Manage Job Board(s) which includes cultivating job positing and updating employer contact information, such as Handshake.
- Manages daily appointments which include preparing, coaching, and advising students and alumni on job searching, including assistance with resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, social media accounts, and e-mails, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of graduate school opportunities.
- Develops, organizes, and executes Cultural Enrichment (CE) events, workshops, and presentation on behalf of the Career Development Center.
- Assists in oversight of the Leaders Inspired for Tomorrow (LIFT) program for incoming freshman.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, counseling, communications, education or a related area, from an accredited institution. Preferably three years of higher education experience, to include recruitment and career interest assessment/advising.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in career management platforms (e.g., Handshake) and general office software (Microsoft Office).
- Knowledge of career development theories, tools, and resources (e.g., résumé/cover letter development, interview prep, job search strategies).
- Knowledge of or ability to learn student information systems.
- Knowledge of FERPA regulations for handling confidential and/or student records.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community organizations, public/private agencies, faculty, staff, and students.
- Strong presentation and group facilitation skills
- Familiarity with employment law and employment recruiting trends.
- Commitment to the mission of church affiliated liberal arts institutions like LaGrange College.
- Proven record of being able to utilize effective time management, organization, prioritization, and attention to detail while performing multiple duties, often under stress.
- Demonstrated understanding of the connection between student engagement and the educational mission of the College.
- Proven record of innovative and strategic thinking as well as a passion for building and adapting programs to meet the changing needs of today’s students.
