Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Counseling Services manages the staff and operations of the Counseling Center and collaborates with staff of the Division of Student Engagement. The Assistant Director supervises the clinical staff of the Counseling Center, and is responsible for Center staffing, clinical services, programming, training, policies/procedures, and adherence to professional, legal and ethical standards. The Assistant Director provides counseling, consultation, outreach and urgent response services to LaGrange College students in support of the mission of the College and the Division of Student Engagement. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday, 12-month position.

Essential Functions:

  • Works collaboratively with the Director for Career, Leadership and Counseling services to provide leadership for mission, needs assessment, strategic planning/goal setting, program evaluation, direct clinical services, outreach programming and training by the Center.
  • Supervises and manages clinical staff, interns, and administrative support staff, including performance review and feedback.
  • Ensures effective practices for triage, intake, scheduling and documentation of individual clinical encounters, therapy, and support groups.
  • Provides periodic and annual analysis and reporting on Center programs, operations, clinical utilization, strategic plan, and goals.
  • Manages a multidisciplinary team of behavioral health professionals that provides counseling and psychological services to LaGrange College students.
  • Provides direct clinical services to students for assessment and treatment as appropriate to clinical training and licensure. Provides case management consultation and support for Center clinicians working with high-needs students and/or through care transitions. Facilitates regular peer consultation among Center providers.
  • Consults with students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and off-campus professionals regarding the needs of individual students.
  • Facilitates timely response to urgent requests for psychological intervention during regular office hours,
  • Attends meetings of the Student Success Taskforce. Collaborates as needed with College officials in situations requiring emergency management and/or behavioral threat assessment and intervention.
  • Coordinates and supports clinical practicum, internship, and/or fellowship placements at the Center for professional students and post-degree trainees.
  • Oversees advising and support for student organizations affiliated with the Center.
  • Represents the Center mission, services and key issues within the Counseling Center, Student Engagement, and the College community. Promotes and participates in activities, committees, events, programs, and other efforts that serve to improve the health and well-being of LaGrange College students.
  • Participates in appropriate continuing education and professional development and training activities to maintain licensure, clinical competency, and enhance knowledge and skills in areas pertinent to the position. Facilitates appropriate continuing education and professional development and training activities for all other Center staff to meet the psychological and mental healthcare needs of students.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Qualifications: Masters or doctoral degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work. Professional licensure by the Georgia Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists. At least three years of pertinent clinical and management experience. Knowledge and experience in the psychological and developmental needs of the college student population are essential. Experience with college sports psychology or willingness to engage in professional development activities to cultivate knowledge of college sports psychology. Excellent clinical, supervisory, management, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills are essential. Prior experience in a college or university counseling center setting is preferred.
  • Minimal Qualifications: A master's or an advanced degree in Counseling or Psychology is required. Applicant must have an active license in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or be an Associate Professional Counselor (APC) eligible and actively seeking full licensure in the state of Georgia. APC licensee will be responsible for recruiting, compensating, and maintaining off-site supervision in accordance with Georgia’s State Board requirements until full LPC Licensure. Must demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills to provide assessment and clinical services.

Must practice by the ethical standards of the professional association and state licensing board. Must have appropriate credentials to supervise interns, fellows, and post-degree trainees.
