Description

I. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the Director of Athletics & Recreation direction, the Assistant to the Athletics Director/Recreation Coordinator will oversee all facets of LaGrange College's campus recreation program. Key partnerships for this position include athletics, sport management faculty, and student clubs and organizations.

This position will perform special duties in areas of identified critical needs and on special projects as requested by the Director of Athletics. This position will contribute to developing and implementing Athletics' external fundraising priorities, strategies, and prospects. Has the authority to perform these functions and duties following policies, federal, NCAA, and conference regulations and established procedures. This position supports the athletics departmental goals aligned with the College's Vision, Mission, and Core Values.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES ASSISTANT to the ATHLETICS DIRECTOR:

  1. Assists in the oversight, operations, and administration of athletic department-controlled facilities
  2. Assists with Game Day Operations and provide additional sports administration support as needed
  3. Assists with the planning, organization, coordination, and execution of Panther athletic events management and all athletic events hosted by LaGrange College.
  4. Assists with planning and organizing special events, conferences, meetings, etc., initiated or hosted by the department, including preparation and coordination of plan details, logistical arrangements, timelines, and communications based upon the event.
  5. May assist with the use of social media platforms for announcements and promotions.
  6. May coordinate hiring of student workers, assigning work to student workers, verifying and approving time for payroll reporting, and providing guidance regarding the College's processes and procedures.
  7. Communicates current administrative policies and processes to staff.
  8. Participates in team-based projects as assigned.
  9. Assists with organizing office moves, ensuring logistical plans are executed on a timely basis.

III. RESPONSIBILITIES RECREATION COORDINATOR:

  1. Responsible for the overall coordination, administration, and marketing of campus recreation services and programs.
  2. Coordinate all operations, including the recruitment, supervision, development, and oversight of full-time staff members, part-time and student staff.
  3. Oversee all aspects of the recreational program, including advising and supporting individual teams regarding scheduling and marketing.
  4. Create and lead educational sessions for all club sport and intramural sports leaders and athletes Responsible for establishing and reviewing operational and personnel policies/procedures consistent with the College's policies and industry best practices.
  5. Spearhead collaborative partnerships with other campus colleagues/departments that focus on annual overarching health and wellness themes & research opportunities that the LaGrange College recreation program can benefit from.
  6. Work closely with their supervisor on student health and safety issues, including providing care, emergency plans, insurance, and maintenance of medical information.

IV. PHYSICAL DEMANDS-WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. This position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work in coaching and training activities with student-athletes.
  2. Demonstration of appropriate golf skills may involve strained muscles or orthopedic-related injuries.

VI. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  2. 4 years of experience in collegiate recreation/athletics.
  3. Ability to make independent decisions.
  4. Demonstrate strong leadership and administrative skills with experience in managing staff.
  5. Strong commitment to student and staff development.
  6. A demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituents.
  7. Ability to think strategically to best address recreational needs.
  8. A demonstrated commitment to the overall campus well-being.
  9. CRP/AED certified.

VII. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to analyze a golf swing and make corrections as needed.
  2. Ability to recruit student-athletes and yield student-athletes who have the capabilities to be successful in a challenging academic and athletic environment.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College, including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, civic and business leaders.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively within a group setting.
  5. Ability to provide effective leadership to student-athletes that encourages academic success and competitive performance.
