Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Finance & Business Services, the Student Accounts Specialist maintains student records in the Banner database by applying payments and other charges to student accounts.  This position interfaces with students, parents, the Admissions, Financial Aid and Registrar’s Offices.  The Specialist oversees various student payment programs such as SIMS, BEI, Florida Prepaid, Alabama PACT, employment reimbursements and others.

Job Duties (but not limited to):

  • Conducts assessment of student needs and proactively engages students in conversation and financial planning related to their college experience; facilitates set up of payment plans for current student accounts
  • Acts as primary point of contact for students, staff and college departments in accurately receipting, recording, refunding, and balancing tuition payments and college revenues; balances daily cashiering session and prepares deposits
  • Provides excellent customer service to students, staff, external organizations, and the general public regarding Student Financial Services
  • Ensures compliance in accordance with federal state regulations and college policies along with standard accounting and financial procedures
  • Handles one or more district wide process related to core area of responsibility, such as: emergency loan tracking and maintenance, returned check processing, credit card refunding, small balance write-offs, or business office mail
  • Performs complex cashiering and refunding functions for student accounts and a variety of college areas following specific college procedures and policies. Must be familiar with college payment, billing and refund policies, institutional and FERPA confidentiality regulations; and Federal Title IV cash management regulations.
  • Researches and resolves discrepancies and/or disputes related to core area of responsibility. Provides appropriate referrals with supporting documentation as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor or associate degree and three (3) years of clerical, secretarial and accounting experience or the equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education as approved by Human Resources.   Experience with accounting in a higher education environment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills with proficient knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel.  SCT Banner knowledge desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and all key members of the college and local community.
