LaGrange College Graduate Assistantship
Graduate Assistants are, first and foremost, graduate students pursuing an education. The opportunity to work closely with faculty and administrators in teaching, research, or administrative environments is an integral part of that education. The College is committed to ensuring that graduate assistant assignments are productive, enhance student qualifications, meeting funding and workload goals, and are consistent with the educational objectives of the student and his or her program. Graduate Assistantships are offered in one of the following areas:
- Housing & Residence Life
- Student Life/Programming
- Fraternity & Sorority Life
- Intramurals & Well-being
- Spiritual Life
- Student Conduct
- New Student Orientation
The GA must be enrolled in the M.Ed. in Higher Education program at LaGrange College. While in the position, the GA may have no more than twenty (20) hours total of additional external commitments including but not limited to outside employment, organization involvement, athletic team participation, internships, practicums, etc. A GA must possess strong interpersonal communication skills, leadership skills, and an strong interest in working with college students. The GA must maintain good academic standing with the program and institution.
Graduate Assistantship Learning Outcomes:
The incumbent will gain the following:
- Benchmarking strategies to further knowledge in interested areas
- Campus needs and assessment development, implementation, and analysis of data
- Co-curricular curriculum and content development skills
- Campus collaboration and communication skills
- Crisis response and on-call experience
Position Description:
The LaGrange Graduate Assistantships will include the following responsibilities and tasks:
- Collaborate with hosting campus department to define specific program objectives and develop implementation plans.
- Co-supervise student leaders, work study students, etc.
- Assist with planning and implementation of departmental programming.
- Assist in student leader training.
- Communicate with campus partners through group and individual meetings.
- Assist with planning and development of department programs/content.
- Participate in the “on-call” schedule for all residence halls on a scheduled basis.
- Provide staffing support to events sponsored by the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Experience.
- Observe the highest levels of confidentiality in the office environment and maintain professionalism in communicating with all parties on behalf of the office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Reporting Structure:
The incumbent will be directly supervised by the Associate Vice President for Student Experience & Dean of Students.
Graduate Assistantship Requirements:
- Admission into the Master’s of Education in Higher Education program.
- Successful completion of M.Ed. in HE program.
Compensation:
The incumbent will receive the following:
- Full residency in a fully furnished apartment located in an on-campus residence hall in lieu of a stipend; or,
- Semi monthly stipend.
- A meal plan may be purchased at the employee discount rate in increments of 50 meals.
