I. POSITION SUMMARY:

LaGrange College invites applications for Interns to serve as an Assistant Coach in one the following sports programs: Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Softball, Women's Indoor Volleyball, & Men's Lacrosse in the LaGrange College Intercollegiate Athletics Department for the 2021-22 academic year. The Intern position will also play a vital role in the development of a positive and supportive organizational culture.

The LaGrange College Internship Coaching Program is an initial step toward pursuing a coaching career in a college athletics. The Internship Coaching Program's primary objective is to utilize the College's NCAA Division III sports programs to provide aspiring coaches an opportunity to observe, engage and gain critical experience in coaching at the collegiate level which can help prepare an individual for a full-time coaching career.

The Internship Coaching Program will introduce Interns on specific aspects of the various responsibilities and duties of a Head Coach, including but not limited to: recruiting, practice planning, individual student-athlete skill instruction, video editing,  scouting, contest preparation and other administrative duties. The Internship Coaching Program will provide the Intern with an opportunity to test personal ideas and coaching methods under the direction and guidance of a veteran Head Coach.

The Intern will become knowledgeable regarding Division III NCAA the rules and regulations. In addition, the Internship Coaching Program provides the opportunity to gain exposure to a highly competitive NCAA Division III Head Coaching staff while increasing marketability for future employment.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES OF INTERNS:

  1. Must assist the Head Coach in all facets of the sports program.
  2. Must demonstrate the ability to utilize various technologies
  3. Must engage in student-athlete recruitment under the direction of the Head Coach.
  4. Must assist with practice and contest preparation with a focus on student-athlete development.
  5. Must fulfill administrative duties as assigned.
  6. Must participate in team community service and fundraising events as assigned.

III. PHYSICAL DEMANDS-WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. This position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work in coaching and training activities with student-athletes.
  2. Demonstration of appropriate athletic skills may involve strained muscles or orthopedic-related injuries.
  3. Working environment includes indoor work and outdoor work in a variety of weather/temperature conditions. Physical requirements include: standing, sitting, walking, running, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.

IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college.
  2. Required: Ability to work effectively with students, faculty and administrators.
  3. Required:  Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

V. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Ability to execute supervisory techniques, leadership training, and proper team operation.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College, including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, civic and business leaders.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively within a group setting.
  6. Ability to provide effective leadership to student-athletes that encourages academic success and competitive performance.
  7. Current training in First Aid and CPR.
Employment is part-time seasonal and varies by sport– (August, 2021- April 31, 2022)
29 hours per week, $7.25 per hour
Housing: On-campus apartment (two-four coaching interns per apartment)
Utilities & Meals included

August-November (Soccer and Volleyball)
October-March (Basketball)
January-April (Softball, Lacrosse)
